From the days we struggle
come the days we may thrive,
For it is the daily obstacle
and task of finding purpose
that our problems and sorrows may arise,
towering tall and formidable,
With much regret the quest
for purpose becomes a demon,
Blinding our sight
with passionate lust and hate,
our purpose remains
obscured in the abyss.
This demon forms from within,
making us scratch out our skin,
We scratch and pry
until our fingers are raw,
and skin gashed,
Yet we have defeated nothing
and still are no closer to our goal,
On our knees we pray for guidance,
What is it we must do,
what is it we must achieve,
why must we suffer
and torment ourselves?
Challenging our own sanity
leads to treacherous and mysterious paths,
We may fall upon
the double-edged sword of suicide,
We may resort to hurting others
to conform our own thoughts
and feel powerful among those
we have brought down,
We may even surrender our own hopes
and principles becoming nothing
but zombied carcases.
But those that do not surrender,
those that don't snap after being pushed,
Those are the ones
who are building character
and initiative,
These are the ones if struck in the jaw
they shake it off,
If struck in the mouth
they wipe away the blood
and may spit upon the ground,
They do not retaliate
for they know
it will lead to further retaliation.
Those who seek purpose
may never even find it,
they must persevere
through the virus of life
and keep their demons within,
controlled and obedient,
A will to survive will come about,
a inspiration to spread knowledge,
and a fire to bring love
to those who lack it.
So may these struggles within
allow us to thrive
in the best days of our lives.
